The Blessing of St. Paul

25 January 2022

We can not imagine the Church without Saint Paul. If the Church is a house, Saint Paul is someone who opens the doors and windows of that house. He reaches and greets many members of the house.

As we celebrate today, the great feast of Saint Paul's conversion, we remember his precious works in the Church. Going back to his life, we can find the beautiful event, especially on the way to Damascus. There, the Lord touches his heart. And convert it to become the heart of the apostles. The Damascus event makes him realise his past life when he persecuted many people. “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” That voice changes his life. The following answer really makes him aware of what he did before. “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.”

From that event, his life changed a lot. He went back to Jerusalem and prayed in the temple. He heard the voice of the Lord again, asking him to go away from Jerusalem. Jesus wants him to preach the Good News. Aware of his past life, Paul refused that request. But the Lord insisted on him, “Go, I will send you far away to the Gentiles."

The result of this request now is so many. We are Catholics because of his apostolic works of Saint Paul, the apostle of the gentiles. Nowadays, we have this similarity with Saint Paul. We meet many other people different from our nation, religions, tribes, and other things. We can follow the example of Saint Paul: meet them, talk with them, share something with them. Let the Lord convert their heart. Our job is not to convert them but to make them our friends, brothers and sisters above all.
